In this age of multifunction, do-everything programs that are becoming ever more
complex and leaving ever more windows and objects scattered all over the desktop,
I thought, maybe for a change, it would be nice to have a small program that
does just one thing, does it well, without too much overhead and countless
windows scattered across the landscape of my screen. This is the intention of Jot.
Jot is a small notepad program that allows the user to create, edit and save
multiple files containing multiple notes. Nothing fancy or particularly earth
shattering. Just a simple small program, with a few bells and whistles, to help
clean up the ever growing pile of Post-It notes and scrap paper that seem to breed
on desktops and workareas.
Some of it's features include:
Multiple file support
Multiple notes within each file
Configuration of colors and fonts for each file
Configuration of colors and fonts for each note
Loads designated file when started
Use of word wrapping is configurable on a per note basis
Saving of cursor position on a per note basis
Support for system clipboard including appending
Printing of entire note or selected area
Find and replace utility
Importing and exporting of text files
Sorting of titles list in ascending, descending or creation order
Insertion of date and time into note
Accelerator keys for common commands
Requirements:
=====================================
Jot is written in VX-Rexx and requires the file VROBJ.DLL, Version 2.14 or
later and that Rexx support be installed on your system.
Installation:
=====================================
Unzip the files in a directory of your choice then run "Install.cmd" from
an OS/2 window. A program object will be created on your desktop that you
can then move to anywhere you like. Jot makes no changes to your system
ini files or to the config.sys file.
When first run, Jot will configure itself and create it's own .ini file
in the installation directory.
Other Stuff
=====================================
Jot is intended for use with small notes and files. I've had notes as large
as 500K and files as large as 2 meg but the bigger they get, the slower things
go and can even bog the whole system down. I've considered adding a function
to check for and limit these sizes but so far, I'm undecided as to its necessity
considering the purpose of the program. A dozen or two screens of text seem to
work quite well so if possible, try to keep your notes within this limit. If
you feel like experimenting and pushing the limits on note size, I'd love to hear
of your experience.
Usual Shareware Notice
=====================================
Jot is shareware, NOT freeware. It is a fully functional program and is not
crippled in any way. You can use it for 30 guilt free days to check it out and
decide if it's what you want. Throw it onto your system, push it's buttons, tweak
it's settings, create and delete notes on all your favorite subjects, use it and
abuse it, whatever you like. After those 30 guilt free days, you should either
register the program or remove it from your system.
Permission is granted to redistribute the Jot archive in an unaltered condition
for a nominal copying charge only. All rights are reserved by the
author, Jacqueline Wells.
Jot is only $15.00 which entitles you to free upgrades up to version 1.99.
See the file "Register.txt" for more information on registering Jot.
Any feedback, bug reports, suggestions for improvements and additions or
other comments are gladly welcome.
